2 of my bromeliads have what looks like sometype of larvae at the base of the plant right above the ground. Its a white substance, doesnt move, and will dissinegrate when rubbed between your fingers. Its definetely not insects but i'm thinking it could be some kind of larvae. ? I removed the substance 3 months ago and have sprayed it a couple of times but it just comes back. I have 100's of bromeliads and these 2 Porteas are the only ones with the problem. They are healthy otherwise and both just put off 2 new pups each. Any ideas as to what it is and if so, is it harmful? If so, should i get rid of these 2 bromeliads to prevent my others from getting whatever it is?
