But what about the bloom after it turns brown? A lady gave me a very nice plant yesterday and the bloom is starting to dry out. Do I wait until it is completely dry and cut it off? I do not want to harm the plant.

Would you please help me find the following book “Bromeliads for the Contemporary garden”. I’ve looked everywhere but cannot find it.

What is the white stuff that is covering my bromeliad? Emily

Bromeliads are such beautiful plants – even the ones with ‘boring’ flowers have the most spectacular foliage that look as good as any flower.
I think a bromeliad would be the ideal gift for someone ‘who has everything’ this year – it really is the gift that keeps giving.

I have a bromeliad that hasn’t flowered and the leaves are very hard, unflexible. It is in an office setting that has constant flourescent light, but no natural light available (no windows). Any thoughts as to the care/return of this plant to a thriving state? I have watered as directed in the video.

My bromeliad is losing the colour in the flower and the new shoots from the middle are green. Is there a way I can return colour to the flower or has it reached the end of it’s flowering? It also has one pup which I am excitied about however, I was wondering how long it would take before it would be ready to flower?

Hi!
We just got this plant as our first year anniversary and I’m not to good with plants but I REALLY care about this one.
Does the “cup” always need to have water in it?
Does it need sun all day because right now mine as it for couple hours in morning and then it’s bright but no sun?
How do I repot this flower? Specific dirt like orchid? Please help and thank you

You should never put the water directly into the stem it causes root rot.

You should never put the water directly into the stem when its in the interior, it causes root rot

I have two orchids, one doing great and the other dying. The only difference is that the one doing poorly is in a beige substance, kind of like cotton, not dirt. Should I repot it and place it in dirt? Should I take it back and get one potted in the substance like the other one. Thanks!

I think I may have found your site too late but here goes…
I received a beautiful plant while recovering from surgery a year ago and the friend told me it was a bromeliad and to water it just like I saw in the video. The center portion where the color was has long since dried up but it started growing “pups” (I guess thats what you call them) All was good until about a month ago when I was not home for about 2 weeks. I watered it as soon as I got home and gave it a little water every night. It started looking weird and the center leaves were brown so I started to pull them like I do other plants and the whole center part came off in my hand! It was really wet so I poured off what had collected in the catch pot and took it outside to dry (I live in North Texas). It was never in direct sunlight but now all the pups are a dull green and the tips are brown and the edges are curling. The soil is not soggy anymore but it is not super dry either. Is it too late to save it?
Help!
New to Bromeliads -

Has anyone had any luck buying bromeliads online? or should I search for a local shop to make a purchase. Online is cheaper but I’m concerned of getting an inferior plant and also having it damaged during shipping. Thanks in advance
