Guzmania Bromeliad Plant Species
Guzmania (guz-may’nya) - Belonging to the Tillandsioideae subfamily; there are today approximately 158 species that have been identified and described.
They are in the main epiphytes growing on trees, but a few larger specimens are terrestrial. Most guzmanias are found in moist shaded forests that are very humid. The inflorescence usually extends above the rosette formed by the leaves and displays brilliant coloration for long periods. The flower bracts are yellow to orange or red and the flowers usually have white or red petals. This is a genus that requires some warmth during the winter months to be at its best.
