I live in Wisconsin and adopted 9 bomeliads in spring that were being thrown out. I have them in clay pots in my yard. I was told that I should bring them in in Sept and put them in the dark, bring them out in November and start watering again to get them to bloom. Is this the correct strategy? We are starting to have cold nights and I think it may be time to bring them in.

i bought one from florist and brought it home, my new puppy probably thought it was a toy and shredded the flower and all of the leaves off. now its just a ball with roots and a white stub where the leaves once grew, if i plant it, will the leaves grow back?!

My bromeliad's leaves are curling and at the base it looks like it is drying up.. so far people in my office feel that the plant
a. needs more watering
b. is not getting enough light.

I have been watering the plant once a week and misting and thought that would be adequate. It was sitting on my counter in indirect sunlight. The room gets a lot of light streaming in all day but still my bromeliad looks sick. Also the water in the center cup of the plant was super stinky after one week... Is this ok?

Latest action: I have stopped misting. In the past 7 days I have given it more water and now have put it in direct sunlight... I watered last Wed and Fri and today Tuesday. The plant looks like it is uncurling and little healthier. My concern is that I may over water the plant! But it does look better today... Help!

I received instructions to give my Aechmea teen-age pups 4 hours of direct sunlight each day, from a green house in Richmond. Consequently they have been on my south facing porch, in full sun - until about noon, and seem to be surviving and not showing any cries for help. The temps were about 100 this past week and I keep a ceiling fan going almost all of the time for my orchids and ferns. The pups are about a year old and growing daily. I have never fed them. Will take them indoors in Oct. Can't wait for their blooms!

The flying insects sound like Fungus gnats, you can monitor their population by using yellow sticky traps. If it is a large problem, then a soil drench would be best. Your pup that is looking sad---> what kind of media did you plant the pups in? What genus/species are the pups? Most importantly, did you let the pup sit out and callous after removing it from the mother before planting?

Help, my son gave me a beautiful red and gold bromelaid that is starting to fade in color plus the leaves are starting to droop and curl inward. I've only had it about 3 weeks and I want to get it to look like it did. What can I do to bring it back for a while longer? I'm not ready to lose it!

I purchased a bromelaid a few months ago that was starting to bloom. The bloom was growing nicely but didn't fully open and has now stopped growing. The tips of the bloom are starting to dry turning brown. What can I do to help it rebound and fully bloom?
