We have a bromeliad growing in our yard in Sanibel Florida. When it blooms we take pictures and send them to different sources but no one has yet been able to tell us what it is. It is incredibly exotic with deep coral stems and lavender to purple to deep blue bloom tips with very sharp stickers.

Can you help us identify it?

I have had my Bromeliad for one year. Name? The foliage looks like green leaves with grayish green tiger strips and has one flower shaped like a long red
feather. Sides of the red flower also have little yellow sprouts. I have it indoors and appears to be in good health. I try to keep water in the base of the foliage and the plastic pot has very good drainage although I do see some of the tips of the green foliage turning brown.

My questions are:

How do I get it to produce another flower?

What type fertilizer should I use?

I just purchased a bromeliad (bromeliac.cae) last Friday. Its leaves are turning brown at the ends. I repotted the plant last Monday and I have been keeping it in the living room, where the light is not bright. Please help me because I don't know what is wrong.

Hi,
I bought two beautiful bromeliads with a bright red flower. They were in excellent condition when i bought them. But now the leaves have turned dry and brown as well as the flower! It looks dead. This happened over a space of 2 weeks, I have been careful not to overwater, and there is water in the cup. Its positioned in a light airy room. i always wait until the soil is a little dry until i water, but im just losing a battle here! i hope you can help!! thanks

I live in Ohio, near Cleveland. I'd like to plant my bromeliad outside, but the weather is so unpredictable. Should I just keep it as an indoor plant?

Thanks.

My bromeiad has started to smell from the middle cup obviously from having water in it constantly. How can I get rid of the smell? Do I have to keep water in the cup at all times?

Thanks for this website & blog! Today I was given a bromeliad which the owner replaced because it prewas "dead". Well, the red flower has turned dry and brown but it appears that two pups have started on the side - and maybe a third tiny one. Based on about 5 min of reading here it sounds like I should just resume/continue watering & maybe get a tray of gravel with water under it to build humidity. Then give it some time for the original plant to either "revive" or deteriorate and remove/replant the pups when/if the original plant is quite done for. Am I doing OK?

The pup on my bromeliad has been growing for about six months and is about ten inches long. Is it too late to cut it off from the mother plant? Thanks!
